Millman Street Resource Centre is in Holborn London WC1 and is the hub for the Older Peoples Community in the area of South Camden.
There is a common misconception that few people live in the area however, behind the grand facades lie pockets of social housing and a diverse community. Many of the older people in the area have lived here all their lives but now that it has become such an expensive place in which to live their children have moved away. Social isolation is a big issue in the area and the older peoples services run out of Millman Street are working to limit the impact this issue has on the more mature members of our community.
We have a thriving day centre with a host of activities. We reach out from here to the more vulnerable. We have a Good Neighbour Scheme which places volunteer befrienders with housebound older people who visit regularly for chat’s and tea. Other volunteers accompany people on Hospital visits and outings. As I write this a large group have gone to the movies to see “The Queen” followed by tea and cake, hosted by our partners Warner Brothers in Theobalds Rd.
Please take the time to look around our site and do let us know what you think. You never know – you may decide to get involved yourself!
